Wow, it’s February already! Our pandas are continuing to have fun while learning in our Media Lab. Kinders have practiced their spelling and reading. Recently, first graders typed their “Winter Wonder” project. Second graders are currently writing their own newspaper articles. Third graders have completed their Microsoft Word “Moon” project. Our fourth graders have learned how to write a storyboard, film a short video, and edit their video. Using GarageBand, our fifth graders have created some awesome music which we can now use for our news station, KRBW.
Thanks for stopping by!
Until next time,
Ms. Kathy and her amazing students!
We just finished our first month in the Media Lab. Kinders got to know their new MacBook Pros. They were very excited to come to our lab. They have begun to learn the keyboard by using Keyboard Zoo. They also got to print out the jack-o-lanterns they made. First through second grade practiced their keyboarding using DanceMat Typing. We talked about the importance of proper finger placement versus speed. Second graders had fun making movies online. Our third graders learned how to make a folder to keep on their desktop to keep and organize future work in the lab. Fourth graders have been busy writing their storyboards for their “practice films” before we begin the iVIE (Innovative Video in Education) process. B-W’s fifth graders are finishing their photo projects and we can’t wait until you see their pictures, WOW!
Please come by anytime and if you have any expertise you would like to share with us, we would love to have you!
Ms. Kathy and her marvelous Medial Lab students
We have been busy in the Media Lab! Our kinders learned how to use Microsoft Word and typed words that reminded them of Spring. Afterwards, they learned how to insert a picture, pretty fantastic for kindergartners! Just recently our 1st graders got to celebrate the end of the school year in the Media Lab by using PhotoBooth. I love seeing them have fun! This Spring, 2nd graders made their very own newspapers online. Our 3rd graders did a School with Heart (c2012) project using Word Cloud. Fourth graders recently had a lesson using PowerPoint and our 5th graders have been finishing their American Revolution Project using iMovie.
B-W Pandas are the kindest students ever, thank you for a wonderful year in the Media Lab!
The following pictures are of 5th graders working on their projects and 1st graders having their end of the year fun using PhotoBooth.
Happy New Year everyone!
Here’s the latest scoop from room 6:
Our 5th graders have been working on making videos online, making avatars and trying to pass their typing tests! Our 4th graders are finishing their scripts for their iVIE videos and some groups have also started filming. Third graders have been working on a new Microsoft Word activity. This month, our 2nd graders created their own “I Have a Dream” project. I hope 2nd grade parents get a chance to see what their child has written, they were all so inspiring! First graders made their own snowflakes online and will also be working on Microsoft Word later this month. Recently, kindergarteners learned how to sign “My name is” and then finger-spelled their own name. Some of them also practiced signing “What is your name?”
All students at Benchley-Weinberger participated in the Hour of Code and our students were amazing!
I have encouraged all of our students to practice their keyboarding at home whenever possible. Two good sites are “BBC’s Dance Mat Typing” and the “Typing Club”. Kinders can go to Keyboard Zoo which you can find on ABCya.com.
Thank you for stopping by,
Ms. Kathy and her marvelous students!
Lots of learning and fun has been happening in the Media Lab at Benchley-Weinberger. This week, the kindergartners designed jack-o-lanterns and then got to print them to take home. First and second graders have been having fun with digital storytelling. Third graders are working on their Microsoft Word document and should be done soon. They have learned how to edit in Word and also to find pictures to insert into their documents. Fourth graders have been learning about film making and have finished their storyboards and are ready to film their “practice” films, all to prepare for the iVIES!
Fifth graders are working on an Excel spreadsheet and graph. The upper grades have also been learning how to “code”. They loved it and we will do more as time permits. Enjoy the photos!
